So many of you sent the following story to me that it was one of those rare instances that a story vaulted immediately to the finals folder. CERN, it seems, is closing its Large Hadron Collider for an "update" before reopening it in 2030:

As one might guess, there is a lot of quantumspeak and technoblither in the article that - in my own opinion - are deliberate misdirects from the "real" story squatting unobtrusively in the middle of all the quantum speak. As usual, the quantumspeak is designed to convince the reader that the whole, and sole, purpose of the collider and its vast magnetic fields and computing power and the coming upgrades are simply to probe the most fundamental particle building blocks of the universe, there being no other scientific investigations it conducts:

Today, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the world’s most powerful particle accelerator, comes to the end of an extraordinary chapter in its scientific journey. Following its final physics run, the accelerator has been switched off to begin CERN’s Long Shutdown 3 (LS3), a major programme of maintenance, consolidation, upgrades and installation work that will prepare the Laboratory for the High-Luminosity LHC (HiLumi LHC), the next phase in the exploration of the fundamental laws of nature.

The HiLumi LHC, scheduled to begin operation in 2030, will increase the collider’s luminosity by a factor of up to ten beyond its original design. This will allow researchers to collect vastly larger datasets, enabling precision studies of the Higgs boson and enhancing the potential to uncover phenomena beyond the Standard Model.

LS3 marks the most extensive intervention on CERN’s accelerator complex since the construction of the LHC itself. Between now and 2030, the shutdown will involve thousands of specialists from CERN and partner institutes worldwide, who will transform the LHC, the injectors and their experiments into their HiLumi versions, and carry out essential renovation projects across the entire accelerator complex and experimental facilities: from the consolidation of the Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) North Area, the dismantling of the CERN Neutrinos to Gran Sasso (CNGS) target area and the transformation of the Experimental Cavern North 3 (ECN3) into a high-intensity fixed-target facility, to the renovation of the ISOLDE facility and the consolidation of the personnel safety systems, electrical network and technical galleries.

In the LHC caverns, the ATLAS and CMS experiments will undergo extensive upgrades, effectively becoming renewed detectors. To fully exploit the unprecedented performance of the HiLumi LHC, they will need to cope with between 140 and 200 proton–proton collisions in every bunch crossing, compared to around 60 during the last LHC run. This means identifying and selecting the most interesting collisions from more than five billion interactions every second.

There you have it: The amount of particle collisions the accelerator will be able to generate will increase about two to three
times what it is now, when the high luminosity experiment updgrade takes over. But little is actually said about what that high luminosity experiment is. A little digging, however, will inform the reader that the increased collisions are brought about by an increased focus of the particle beams doing the collisions. And that increased focus in turn will require increasing the magnetic field strength and focus, requiring an overhaul and update to the collider's magnets, and here, with the following paragraph, we reach what I regard as the real heart of the story, and, of course, the one about which the information is vague and mostly missing:

“The LS3 represents a huge and complex logistical and engineering undertaking,” says Jean-Philippe Tock, Head of the LS3 Coordination Team. “In the LHC alone, 1.2 km of magnets and components will be removed and replaced with new equipment, and across the whole complex, dozens of projects are planned, involving thousands of engineers, physicists, technicians and support personnel.” (Emphasis added)

That's almost a mile of magnetics that will be replaced with "new equipment" i.e., the new magnets with the greater strength to provide greater focus of the particle streams.

For regular readers here, and more importantly, those readers of my book The Third Way, you will recall that I have been arguing all along that the particle accelerator is about more than just particle physics. The particle physics is the cover story, the technoblither and quantumspeak that can be used to cover other possible agendas. For one thing, as I pointed out in that book and have since on numerous occasions, the existing magnetic field strengths are already several times the magnetic field strength of the entire planet. On this basis I have argued that the collider, when operating, probably has hidden influences and effects on planetary systems (such as the weather) via magnetic resonance effects in the planet. It is even conceivable, I have argued, that those resonance effects could extend to the Sun itself since the planet's and the Sun's fields contact and affect each other. Thus the resonance effects would lead from CERN, to the planet, to the Sun. Because of this possibility, I argued in The Third Way that there may be a covert project at CERN to track "correlated phenomena" such as aggregate human behavior or weather effects and correlating them to CERN activity.

Additionally, I have also argued that the very physical layout of the CERN installation - which is actually a series of five accelerators - could possibly produce torsional and precessional effects which, by their very nature (and the nature of all electrical systems) are hyper-dimensional, and that these too might constitute very secret aspects of the project.

And now CERN is "upgrading" - translation: increasing - the magnetic field strengths of the collider.

There's a final aspect to all this high octane speculation about the shutdown, and that is the one thing that conceptually unites all the particle physics, all the quantum-speak, all the speculation about torsion, precession, magnetic resonance effects and so on, and that is plasma. And once this is admitted, then one admits even wilder, crazier high octane speculation, that all of this may be about opening channels of communication, and doors... all of which also requires a great deal of computing power...

A few CERN scientists did admit several years ago they are trying to open a door to the 4th dimension. I'm worried what they might let in. I've seen the movie Hellboy.
